1890 - 1909
October 2, 1890 – Julius Henry Marx is born at 239 East 114th Street in New York City.
1903 – 1904 – Julius sings in the choir at the St. James Protestant Episcopal Church at Madison Avenue and 71st Street in New York.
June 30, 1905 – Julius answers a classified advertisement in the New York World seeking singers and dancers for a vaudeville act.

July 16, 1905 – Julius makes his professional debut at 14 as a member of the Leroy Trio at the Ramona Theatre in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.


December 11, 1905 – Julius begins a tour in the act, Lily Seville and Master Marx at the Majestic Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama.
March 25, 1906 – Julius debuts as a member of Gus Edwards’ Postal Telegraph Boys at the Dewey Theatre in New York.

May 4, 1906 – Julius sings with Gus Edwards’ Postal Telegraph Boys in a benefit for the victims of the San Francisco earthquake at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.

August 2, 1906 – Julius debuts in his first acting role in the cast of The Man of Her Choice at the Colonial Theatre in Annapolis, Maryland.

February 25, 1907 – Julius gives his first performance in Ned Wayburn’s Side Show at the Trent Theatre in Trenton, New Jersey.
May 12, 1907 – The Three Nightingales debut at Blaney’s Lincoln Square Theatre in New York. His brother Milton and Mabel O’Donnell join Julius in the act.
June 1, 1908 – With the addition of brother Adolph the Three Nightingales become the Four Nightingales. They give their first performance as a quartet at Henderson’s Music Hall in Brooklyn, New York. Lou Levy replaced Mabel O’Donnell.


November 1909 – The Marx family relocates to Chicago, Illinois. The Four Nightingales play their final shows along the route from New York to Chicago.
December 13, 1909 – Julius, Milton and Adolph are joined by their mother Minnie and Aunt Hannah when the Six Mascots debut at the Star Theatre in Aurora, Illinois. The sixth Mascot is Fred Klute.
